    National Rhododendron Gardens - Olinda - Dandenong Ranges

    The Dandenongs is well known for its natural beauty and Olinda Village, located in the heart of the ranges and just 50 minutes from Melbourne, is absolutely no exception. Decorated with some of the most spectacular gardens in the country, Olinda is a sight to behold all year round.

    Visitors are able to visit both public and private gardens all year round, including the National Rhododendron Gardens, Pirianda Gardens and Cloudehill. Spend some time taking in the sights and sounds of these magnificent gardens before taking one of several walks through the Dandenong Ranges National Park. Take the trek to Olinda Falls or walk through the RJ Hamer Arboretum with its 120 hectares of native and exotic trees, and appreciate how spectacular these areas really are.

    Olinda is also home to a great number of native wildlife, so keep an eye out for emus, wombats, echidnas and even lyrebirds. 

    The village boasts a number of craft shops and galleries which not only display but also sell works by local Australian craftspeople. With works ranging from jewellery right through to leather and ceramics, there is sure to be something for every taste on hand. After browsing these stores, take a look into one of the antique stores, spend some time and see if you can’t find yourself a treasure.

    Local produce does not, however, stop at crafts, with many roadside stalls selling a wide array of produce such as flowers, eggs and home-made preserves to die for.

    Olinda is also well known for its boutique cafes and restaurants, take some time to dine in some of these shops before stopping for a famous Olinda Devonshire tea or even a home-made pie.

    With all these attractions in one place, it’s easy to see how Olinda has become so popular with tourists over the years. The natural beauty of the region combined with country charm and fine dining is not to be missed at any time of year.
